The Proof: Learnings That Led Us Here
We analyzed over 100 of our most successful strategy and discovery calls to create this prompt. Here’s what we learned:
Successful Campaigns Link Goals to Specific Numbers: The most consistent success signal in our campaigns was going from “this problem exists” to “this problem has a number attached to it.”
- The presence of surface-level problems indicates one of two things. Either they’re not close enough to your revenue to be the real issue, or they’re just making it more difficult to identify the solution.
- It’s not: “SEO isn’t working, and we need more leads”
- Instead, it’s: “SEO is driving 1-2 truly qualified leads per month through general contact forms, despite having decent website traffic. We’d like to get this to 10-20.”
Identify the Largest Obstacle: There’s likely plenty of things you could improve about your marketing, but not all of them have the same impact on your goals. The majority of our most successful campaigns saw results by solving their 1-3 biggest roadblocks, rather than overhauling their entire pipeline.
- Without identifying the largest obstacle to focus on, campaigns often turn into a list of disjointed tactics.
- It’s not: “We’re thinking about building out more content, starting a new email campaign, and increasing ad budget to do more marketing on new social channels to increase lead volume.”
- Instead, it’s: “We’re getting good website traffic and content downloads. But only 5% of those top-of-funnel leads ever reach sales because we don’t have a clear nurture path.”
Use Existing Assets: Why would you start from scratch in a new channel if another one is already working for you? Instead of duplicating efforts across multiple campaigns, do more of what’s working and unblock that pipeline. Many of the marketing teams we’re working with have what we call a “dormant asset,” or a highly valuable source of leads that, if unlocked, can increase lead generation.
- Keep doing what works for you. Just try to do more of it. More often than not, improving existing channels and leveraging current assets is easier and yields better results.
- It’s not: “We need more leads, so we want to start advertising on LinkedIn, too.”
- Instead, it’s: “Our comparison page converts well, but doesn’t have steady traffic. If we can organize existing campaigns around this high-converting page, we can reliably drive leads through this asset.”
